Installation vessel to be built in China

COSCO Shipyard Group Co., Ltd. signed a contract with the Danish ship owner A2SEA to build a vessel specially designed for the purpose of installing offshore wind turbines.

The jack-up vessel, to be named “Sea Installer”, will be designed to carry a significantly higher capacity of eight to ten wind turbines at a  time and to operate at water depths of up to 45 m, making it well suited to work both on upcoming offshore wind projects in the UK and other offshore wind markets.

“Sea Installer” is to be built with dimensions of 132mx39mx5.8m, a speed of 12 knots, a crane capacity of 900 t and a loading capacity of 5,000 t.

Delivery of the vessel to the shipowner is scheduled for the second half of 2012.
