The order for new equipment will improve the terminal operator's handling capacity at the Port of Baltiysk as container volumes in the Kaliningrad area continue to rise.
Delivery of the terminal tractors along with four RTGs is scheduled for the fourth quarter of 2010 with the remaining cranes arriving in the second quarter of 2011.
BSC belongs to major Russian port operator Novorossiysk Commercial Sea Port (NCSP), who already operates with Kalmar forklift trucks, reachstackers and terminal tractors at the Port of Novorossiysk. The customer's previous experience with Kalmar equipment convinced them to turn to Cargotec yet again for dependable container handling solutions for the new Baltiysk container terminal. BSC's 7+1 wide and 1-over-6 high RTGs will as per Cargotec be capable of handling 40 tonne loads. The units will come equipped with all-electric Bromma spreaders and Cargotec's autosteering and container position verification system, Smartrail®. Cargotec's latest generation of E-One2 RTGs provide the industry's lowest lifetime costs, consume considerably less fuel compared to conventional diesel-hydraulic RTGs and minimise their environmental impact, as the company states. The TR618i terminal tractor has been designed as a workhorse with superior operational characteristics. As the latest Kalmar icon series terminal tractor, this model is valued for its efficiency, ease of maintenance and innovative design.
